Cupar gala to returnunder a new guise

Fund-raising gets under way in earnest tomorrow (Saturday) for the Cupar Summer Fayre, due to take place at Duffus Park on June 17 next year.

The Summer Fayre committee is joining forces with Cupar Golf Club to host a fireworks display at the club, which it’s hoped will attract a big turnout and kick-start the fund-raising campaign.

Pippa Gardner, who’s joint chairman of the committee along with Carol Lumsden, said: “The Fayre relies on fundraising and support and a number of key fundraising events are planning throughout the year.

“Without these and the community’s support, the Fayre can not be held. The new committee welcomes the support of the community and businesses to ensure the Fayre is a success.

“Anyone wishing to volunteer, donate or become involved in whatever manner, small or large, would be welcomed with open arms.”

Pippa and Carol paid tribute to the organisers of the children’s gala, which folded last year following an accident involving an inflatable.

Securing financial support was also proving to be a challenge.

They said that the new event would not be possible without the previous committee’s hard work.

“We have deliberately rebranded and are looking to deliver a traditional community-wide summer fayre event, working hard to get all the local organisations and businesses involved in the day,” said Pippa.

“We will still have a parade, stalls and so on but with a more traditional focus and embracing the whole town and wider area rather than just children.

“The hope is that Cupar’s host of local groups and organisations, for all ages and interests, will get involved to deliver a Fayre day which offers something for everyone.

“We are delighted to be given the opportunity to relaunch this key Cupar event and are really encouraged by the committee’s enthusiasm and commitment to deliver a community-wide event for the town. We really hope that the community will come on board and support the new Fayre, and get really involved in the build-up, and on the day”.

Gates open tomorrow at 4pm and hot food, refreshments and merchandise will be available from then. The fireworks display begins at 6pm sharp, and those attending are asked not to take their own sparklers or fireworks.

Proceeds from the sale of tuck and flashing light toys will go towards the Fayre, while food and drink sales will raise funds for the Golf Club.
